I haven’t had the opportunity to do a lot of traveling and most of my travels have been good and fun. But sometimes things can go wrong. Those are the times and the trips that you never forget.
I had gone to Florida to visit some old friends, and they decided to make the eight-hour trip to Disney by car. Actually, they rented a nice-sized van, which was nice. The trip included a young couple, their two children, myself, and the grandmother.
It would have been a wonderful trip but for the eight hour drive when the youngest child was allowed to be out of his car seat most of the trip. By law he should have been in the car seat. The little boy would scream for a little bit and the grandmother would get him out of the car seat. Then he would proceed to jump over everybody, try crawling up to the driver, pull hair and fight with his sister and scream if he didn’t get his way. Then after this went on for a while the grandmother would put him in the car seat, the boy would calm down and the grandmother would take him back out of the car seat and it would start all over again. At one point, the boy managed to open the sliding door of the van and the driver swerved to the side of the road till the door was closed, which could have caused an accident.
The time at Disney was great and I had a good time although the weather got rather hot and humid. Then came time to head home. I certainly wasn’t looking forward to that.
And it was the same thing all over on the way home. In fact, on the way home both children were fighting, and crawling over the grandmother who complained that she was worn out and exhausted from the kids behavior. But instead of correcting the kids behavior it seemed she was part of the problem. I believe the kids behavior kept her from being bored for the eight hour trip. And I had decided I would never go on a long trip with them again.
